DRAWINGS
Zélia Salgado has studied drawing at the National Fine Arts School – ENBA (presently National Museum of Fine Arts – MNBA) in the 1920s, but also at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, in Paris, always reminding during her life the painting classes given by Isaac Dobrinsky (Ukraine, 1891 – France, 1973). “On her drawing she uses the stroke as a subtle limitation of forms to affirm her desire for synthesis”, said landscape architect roberto Burle Marx. Forgotten for years, many drawings were redeemed from her personal collection in 2004 by the present MNBA Director, Mônica Xexéo, during the preparation of the exhibition for her centenary – Zélia Salgado, 100 years of action and lucidity. Today they take part of the Museum’s collection, certifying the artist’s self-confident strokes.
