FIGURATIVE PAINTING
Zelia’s figurative painting starts from the mid-1930′s to around 1952, with Violoncelista (Violoncellist, oil on canvas), even though she had already tried some major abstraction earlier with Bordadeira (Embroideress, oil on canvas, 1947), her transition work, and despite being clearly oriented towards abstraction in sculpture (Aspiração Vertical nº1 – Vertical Aspiration nº 1, bronze, 1949-50). After that, her painting is fully geometric, reaching new abstract forms by the last series, from the 1990′s.
