La Grande Chaumière
Living in Paris in 1937-38, Zélia Salgado studies at the renowned Académie de La Grande Chaumière, in Montparnasse. “La Grande Chaumiére was a bohemian place, a very good one, where you could study, where… there was a free study, models would pose and each one did whatever they wanted”, she recalls on the documentary Abstract Aspirations. She studies with three famous masters of Art: Isaac Dobrinski (drawing), with whom she got befriended; Robert Wlérick (sculpture) and fauvist painter Othon Friesz. Lessons would be shared with landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx later on when both shared a workshop in Rio, in 1946-1950.
