Rodin, sculptor
Auguste Rodin (born François-Auguste-René Rodin, Paris 1840-1917) was Zélia Salgado’s greatest inspirer as a Fine Arts student – not without reason since the great master had passed away just three years before she entered at the Bernardelli brothers’ art workshop. According to her memory, “Rodin brought a revolutionary element, since sculpture was very still by then, very academic”. When reading Rodin’s The Testament, she fell for sculpture, which ultimately was prioritized in her career and where she was most successful and recognized.
